Stuff White People Like, #75

Threatening to move to Canada.
Often times, white people get frustrated with the state of their country. They do not like the President, or Congress, or the health care system, or the illegal status of Marijuana. Whenever they are presented with a situation that seems unreasonable to them, their first instinct is to threaten to move to Canada.
It’s funny. Because it’s true. Not sure who authors this blog, but they are spot on with a lot of their observations.

As always, it’s about institutional racism.
Outside court, Pasqua’s mom, who did not want to be named for fear of retaliation by street people angered by Prevost’s death, said her daughter was a victim of systemic racism. “Native people have always been dealt with unjustly,” she said.
“The police, when they did their investigation, were biased,” she claimed.
The overwhelming evidence of her guilt notwithstanding, of course.

Setting up an innocent professor? Surely not.
Now, letting 15 schoolgirls die (or is that forcing them to die?) because they’re not wearing appropriate dress? Well, that’s a different story.
But remember - no Muslim woman is forced to wear Islamic garb - they choose to do it because it’s empowering.
OK, so that last bit of snark is maybe over the top. I’m sure there are many Muslim women who do feel that way about Islamic dress. Just not the ones being beaten, arrested, or killed because they choose not to comply.

In an earlier post, I had pointed to this ABC companion piece to their “Let’s show how bigoted Rednecks are” sting operation (and yes, Rednecks should always be capitalized). Steven Emerson of the Investigative Project on Terrorism takes a closer look at one of these myths.

didn’t get the memo about the editorial switch from “global warming” to “climate change”.
Follow his advice carefully. If you’re going to invest in the scam of carbon offsets - be sure you by them from the reputable scam artists:
Which offsets do I buy? Well, it’s important to choose offsets carefully, especially since the carbon offset market is new and mostly unregulated. If you’re buying offsets, you should look for marks of quality, like the Gold Standard. Offsets that carry the Gold Standard label are regarded as the highest quality offsets in the world, and help fund new renewable energy projects. They are independently audited to ensure your purchase has a climate benefit. I purchase Gold Standard offsets for all of my flights, and my Foundation uses them too.
That scam artists crack is perhaps a little bit unkind. I’m sure some people in the carbon offset business actually believe in what they are doing. I mean, surely Al Gore wouldn’t start a carbon offset company that he then pays to offset his conspicuous energy consumption if it weren’t legit, right?

When you’re getting your butt kicked, offer a truce and regroup.
My favorite bits:
Consequently, I intend to withdraw my complaint with the Alberta HRC against Levant’s decision to publish the offensive and hateful drawings. I believe his decision was irresponsible and was intended to cause strife, but I now appreciate that it may not fall outside the limits of free speech.
Notice the language. Not “I have withdrawn” but “I intend to withdraw”. Two very, very different things.
Then there’s this:
The history of anti-Semitism in Alberta is non-trivial, and it wasn’t from newcomers like me, who abhor it. It is distasteful and dishonest for Levant to refer to me as an “anti-Semitic jihadi.” That extremist rhetoric is incredibly divisive and polarizing in our pluralistic Canadian society.
So I’m obviously pretty mainstream and heavily into interfaith dialogue. That leads me to an offer to Ezra Levant.
Note to Mr. Soharwardy - you don’t get to define whether or not you are “pretty mainstream”. People who observe your actions and hear your words get to decide if that description applies to you. You have only decided to seek the mantle of centrist now that you are taking a beating in the court of public opinion. The same court, incidentally, that gets to judge whether or not your ideas are “mainstream”. And we all know that you wouldn’t be offering a truce now if not for the overwhelming rejection of your actions by those truly in the mainstream of Canadian culture and tradition. In Texas, the idiom “all Hat and no Cattle” would apply.
If you’re not familiar with the target of Mr. Soharwardy’s magnanimous gesture of reconciliation, then visit Ezra Levant’s blog.
UPDATE:
Ezra has posted his response to Mr. Soharwardy.
